Sissy der neue Esel auf der Bliem-Ranch13.07.2011
Gestatten, dass ich mich vorstelle: Sissy ist mein Name und ... more
Thanks to its central position, Bliem’s Family Hotel is the ideal place to go on trips and sightseeing tours both within the Schladming Dachstein region and beyond.
Schladming will play host to the 2013 Alpine World Ski Championships. The preparations for this massive event are in full swing. With its many shops and cafés, the Evangelical and Catholic churches and the Anna Chapel (oldest building in Schladming), the town centre is definitely worth a visit. The town museum at the Bruderlade House offers an interesting insight into Schladming’s transformation from mining town to ski resort.
Atop the Dachstein the “Sky Walk”, one of the most spectacular observation platforms ever built, offers an unrivalled view down as well as across the sheer endless alpine world around. The experience is certainly memorable.
At the “Eispalast” (ice palace), ice sculptures and light and sound effects create a world of illusion. Especially impressive is the view into a real crevasse. Brand-new: a Red Bull F1 car made from ice. The cable car ride is free for all Sommercard holders.
Our home community has a rural and charming character with many interesting little places worth exploring. We would like to recommend a visit to the PIT-PAT billiard golf course, the outdoor adventure pool and the Kneipp facility Weißenbach.
For some years now our local mountain, the Hauser Kaibling, has been covered in sheep every summer. A shepherd together with his sheep dogs drives the 800 woolly bundles up to the alpine pastures (used as ski slopes in winter) and together they spend the entire summer on the mountain. The sheep are very efficient grazers and prevent bushes from growing on the pastures.
Along the “Schafsinn circular walk” hikers can learn more about this “Alpine pasture lamb project” and maybe even meet the enormous herd. This new path takes you up to a number of quaint little huts offering real Styrian delicacies. The fantastic view over the Dachstein massif is even more enjoyable with a little something to eat.
The Schladming Tauern cable car up the Hauser Kaibling is available daily from 8am–12pm and 1pm-4.45pm. Till 26 October 2011 the cable car is free to use for Sommercard holders.
In the home town of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the great composer is a central attraction. His birthplace in the Getreidegasse and his house are worth a visit.
The Castle Hohensalzburg not only offers an excellent view over the beautiful historic town, but also an insight into the Middle Ages. Salzburg Cathedral is probably the town’s most significant sacred building. With its glorious facade and its mighty dome it is a splendid example of Early Baroque architecture.
For those passionate about art the Museum der Moderne is the place to go. At two locations, the Rupertinum in the old town and the museum on the Mönchsberg, great modern art is on display.
